The Importance of Protein Functional Level and in The Life of The Athlete

Continuing with our series of posts where we are reviewing the functional importance of multitude of nutrients, we today talk about proteins, one of the key nutrients and more to take into account people who do exercise.

I count the importance of protein functional level and in the life of the athlete, as well as the recommended amounts, and we invite you to know our top of protein rich foods.

Functionality of proteins

The proteins or proteins they are biomolecules composed of linear chains of amino acids that constitute the most diverse and versatile body molecules. They make up an important role for the growth of our Organization, in addition to large amount of functions, since most biological processes carried out by the body they depend directly on the presence and activity of these molecules.

Its functionality ranges from the contraction of the muscle, actin and myosin, to structural, enzymatic functions, hosmeostaticas, immunological, hormonal or receptor cells.

Importance of protein at muscular level

If there is a vital macronutrient for muscle growth and repair of tissues, it is the protein; the needs will be crucial to achieve physical findings

In addition to the importance played by these molecules in all functions of which we have spoken, recommended levels of protein in our diet will be directly linked with our anabolic muscle function, being fundamental for the strengthening and growth of muscle.

For hypertrophy or muscle gain, as well as exercise and workouts, the body must cover the daily need for protein through diet, speaking of essential amino acids not generated by the body itself.

Recommended daily allowance of protein

The daily amount of protein that we take vary depending on personal factors such as sex, and the intensity of physical work to continue and our objectives. You will not need the same amount of contribution one sedentary person, than other working bodybuilding frequently.

  • Sedentary people: the daily need amounts to 0, 8 g/kg body weight in response to a minimum wear of protein through daily activities.
  • Sports people: in this case the daily protein requirement is around 1, 5 – 2 g / kg of body weight. In the case of people who work force tends to be rounded up to the 1, 8g / kg body weight.

Biological value of proteins

Depending on How to understand our body proteins We can say there are some better quality of others. This is what is known as the biological value of proteins.

To get to know the quality of the proteins we take we should know which part of the total of the ingested become part of our body. This factor depends on what is known as biological value. To know this value we will take into account the amount of incoming and outgoing, nitrogen in a percentage scale of absorption from 0 to 100.

Usually higher quality protein sources, according to its proportion of essential amino acids and its digestibility, they usually correspond to animal foods: fish, (red and white) meat, eggs, seafood, milk… But in the case of vegan people, also you can find contribution of proteins in plant foods such as: tofu, quinoa or seitan.
