But all this requires frequency in the activity-explains Sérgio Sardinha, physical educator and physiologist.
On a smaller scale, the arms and shoulders are also worked when riding a bicycle. The upper body is the one that gives support to the rider during steeper descents and that stabilizes the vehicle during stronger pedals. Even the abdomen muscles are required while practicing on the bike. According to Sérgio Sardinha, this exercise can define several parts of the body without the person realizing it.
During the pedaling, sometimes we do not even notice, but we are working arms, shoulders and the called muscles of the core, that are abdominal region of the body.These parts are important to sustain. When you need to balance on the bike, doing a little more strength, for example, the muscles of the abdomen are being demanded. The arms help stabilize your direction on the bike.
Even with all these benefits, cyclists need to take some care before they start pedaling. To achieve the expected results, medical follow-up is recommended so there is no complication during the activity. Other important tips are constant hydration, before, during and after exercise-to avoid cramps and improve the performance of the new athlete-and to practice other complementary exercises such as bodybuilding to work the upper arms, shoulders and back .
Professor Sérgio Sardinha also stresses the importance of stretching before and after cycling, especially in the lower body. He states that this simple practice prepares the body for activity and can prevent injuries or bruises during exercise.
Stretching is key. It will prepare the muscles for the activity and then contribute to the relaxation of the body, so that the cyclist does not have any pain and can return to exercise the next day. A very recommended stretch is to pull both legs flexed backwards at the back, working the quadriceps and calf which are very required parts during the pedaling.
