Waterman: Course Of Apnea And Survival Great Waves

A training focused on big wave surfers and sea people who wish to prepare for extreme sea conditions.

The aquatic activity growing faster and the mass of people that interact with the sea is increasing. It is for this reason that Gonzalo Lazo creates Waterman Chile, a space designed for extreme sea situations. After 20 years of experience as a rescuer of sea, feels the need to complement his passion and pass it to a particular action.

Waterman is teach prevention of accidents at sea with plus size bikinis offered by Naturegnosis, improve aquatic skills, courses in basic life support, first aid and rescue with various elements of support techniques.

They are currently training in Apnea and survival, which is based on increasing the ability to breath under water holding in tense situations. “This training already did it in may in ConCón and Pichilemu, where surfers as Merello, Medina, Jessica Anderson and others made training,” says Gonzalo Lazo.

In this training, you will learn different techniques of apnea and breathing exercises to strengthen and increase the capacity of the lungs. The class is designed so that stakeholders can spend more time underwater through lectures, intense training and multiple swimming and breathing exercises.

The purpose is to help them in extreme situations, in which control of the mind and calm are the main factors for survival. In addition to theory of apnea and breathing techniques to maximize the retention of the breath.

This training makes Gonzalo Lazo and Ricardo Taveira for two full days. The activity will take place on 29 and 30 October in Concon, 5 and 6 November in Pichilemu, 12 and 13 November in Arica and 19 and 20 November in Antofagasta.

Stages of training

Day 1 theory (4 hours)

Delve into the physiology of apnoea through academic information. This information is very important when it pushes the body to the limit. Understand what makes the body during apnea training exercises, and how to identify the signs and symptoms of hypoxia, is crucial in order to train safely. You can also learn different breathing exercises in order to participate, strengthen and properly use the diaphragm (bottom of the lungs). In addition, learn how to provide primary and secondary care to the unconscious victims and wounded. CPR and rescue breathing will be taught in this class.

Swimming pool (6 hours)

In the pool, will be implemented for ventilation or breathing right ups, in order to begin the static apnea, dynamic apnea and apnea doing exercises of stress in a controlled environment. Present and practise rescue techniques and exercises of survival of big wave surfing-related.

Day 2 Mar (6 hours)

On the second day will run the exercises learned in the pool, however, the execution of these skills will be held in the open ocean. New situations related to “romps” suffered by surfers, but with the intention of applying the information in the two previous phases of the course will be presented. The objective here is the practical application and install a sense of calm in the most critical situations. During this session open ocean, complete the exercises in all three forms of apnea; testing static and dynamic stress in open water, as well as rescue scenarios and breathing exercises.
