How to Assemble Pedal with Power Sensor

Before mechanical approach, remember to read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions of the pedal.

The SRAM RED 22 Quarq power sensor itself into two parts:

  • The first part contains a crank and crowns,
  • the second part contains the crank and an axis.

Install the bike in a workshop foot strap properly it at the bottom bracket.

You must have previously installed the bottom bracket BB30 SRAM RED or other system that can accommodate this pedal. Strap part in the workshop so that the foot does not move during the procedure.

Practical information: bottom bracket mounting SRAM RED BB30

Rotating the preload adjustment (small plastic part on a screw pitch) until it comes into contact with the crank.

Apply grease to the contact points with the two bearings.

Spread with finger

Apply grease in the axes of the two bearings (right and left) BB30 housing with finger

Insert the ring marry turnover. Party with legible text outward.

Grease

Presenting the crank without trays (the left side of the bicycle course), then push it so right inside the housing. It must pass both bearings out of the right side.

Push the shaft so that it passes completely and that the handle abuts the bearing. If the axis is not quite the stop, do you help a special hammer designed for this purpose. Type only with the plastic side so as not to scratch the pedals. On the other side, the center comes out with the splines to drive the second crank. Grease the washer on the right.

Put the puck in position, then grease the grooves which will be mounted on the other side of the pedal with the crowns.

Inserting the ring thickness on the axis.

Press all manually.

Take the other crank and apply grease to the groove. Insert the handle into the grooves taking care to have the opposite cranks. Gently tap on the system to insert the handle in place.

Hand tighten with an Allen wrench of 10mm.

Then tighten at 48-54 Nm torque with a torque wrench.

Gently tap on the system to insert the handle in place. On the other side, to the left, tighten the ring hand to turn the slight preload crankset.

Tighten the preload adjuster bolt to remove the remaining space.

Make sure there are no lateral play. Wipe the excess grease and traces related to the assembly.

It is now up the magnet used to indicate the cadence sensor to power.

The tab to fix is included with the pedals if necessary. A magnet comes with the pedals and can substitute for pasting if no present system under the case can not be used.

In our case, we can insert it under the cable guide of the holding tab in the bottom bracket cage. The magnet must be located opposite the area bounded by a circle on the inside of the spider. It must be between 2 and 8 mm spacing. To see if the magnet works turn the pedals 6 laps back. If the red light present in front crowns flashes twice red is that it works perfectly. A slight noise (rattling) is also noticeable with each pass before the magnet sign of operation. For more information refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.

It now remains to adjust the derailleur based on your pedal, shift the chain, then pair the Quarq power meter with your device collecting data via the ANT + communication protocol.

After driving about 100 km, use a torque wrench to re-check the tightening torques. It is also important to check the torque periodically. The mounted pedal is now functional.
